Attention in recent efforts to prevent teen substance abuse has focused on “co-morbidities,” or the presence of two disorders in the same person at the same time, with implication that interactions between the disorders can intensify the effects of both. Interaction between substance abuse disorder and co-morbid disorders like anxiety, impulsiveness and depression is explored in this New York Times article on how an antidrug program seeks to fight addiction through testing for co-morbidities. – The Editor
