Facilitator Training

Our Facilitators are parents and individuals who contribute their time and talent to guide Parent Talk Facilitated Discussion Groups. Parent Talks are arranged through Independent Member Schools in New York City, providing opportunities for parents of children in the same grades to come together to discuss relevant topics and issues. Our facilitators go through intense training to provide skilled leadership for Discussion Groups.

For decades NYC-PIA has brought thousands of independent school parents together to discuss their concerns – from sleep schedules to social media, from bullying to binge drinking and from tantrums to teenage anxiety. Our facilitators keep the conversations going – could YOU be a trainee?

The Winter 2024 dates are:

Day 1 — Friday, January 19, 9 am to noon (IN PERSON)

Day 2 — Tuesday, January 23, 9 am  to 11:30 am (ZOOM)

Day 3 — Thursday, January 25, 9 am to 11:30 am (ZOOM)

Day 4 — Monday, January 29, 9 am to 11:30 (ZOOM)

Day 5 /Refresher — Friday, February 2, 9 am to noon (IN PERSON)

We cover a lot of ground each day so you must attend all five sessions to complete the training.

The training is very thorough and covers the history of Parents in Action, the purpose of Parent Talks, how to work effectively with a partner, how to listen for what’s really going on in a meeting, group dynamics, strategies for tricky situations, how to manage difficult conversations, the logistics of Parent Talks and Zoom meetings and much more.

If you would be interested in a possible future training series to be held in the evenings, we would like to hear from you. Please reach out to Josseline Charas at facilitation@parentsinaction.org and a member of the training team will follow up with you.

If you are interested in becoming a Facilitator, please contact us at facilitation@parentsinaction.org or call 212.426.0240
